Growing Your Own Strawberries in a Pot

  1. First, purchase a small strawberry plant from your local nursery or even order one online. Make sure that the plant is an everbearing strawberry because that way it will continuously keep making strawberries. You will also have much higher success growing strawberries from plant than from seed.
  2. Fill your hanging pot about 1/2 way with organic soil and plant your strawberry plant.
  3. Continue filling the pot with soil until it has reached the top and the base of your plant.
  4. Make sure your pot has a hole in the bottom of it so that the soil can drain properly.
  5. Press the soil down gently and lightly water it.
  6. Hang your strawberry light in a sunny spot where it will get at least 6 hours of sunlight every day.
  7. After the sun has set, place your strawberry plant in a dark or dimly lit room.
  8. In about 4 weeks, you should have beautiful, red strawberries ready to pick and eat!

Your strawberry plant will continue to bear fruit as long as it is the everbearing kind. Make sure to keep the soil moist at all times, and that your plant gets plenty of sunlight. If your plant makes too many strawberries, use them to make jam, preserves, or even freeze them for smoothies and cocktails!
